ULTRAMARINE

Hey guys its nearly crimbo again and its a busy time of year for me, so i decided not to take on anything to serious project wise, Although i have been building a complex base for a future project but the painting is going to push my limits so that will wait until after christmas when things are back to normal.
So in the meantime i am painting the web store exclusive space marine (no1 i think there were 3) but ive added a few bits from the ultramarines up grade sprue. I've decided to go with the more modern darker armor that gw seam to paint these days years ago they were lighter. but like i said this will be a fun little project so not to fussed with perfection. just fun fun !!!

Asgrim the dwarf pt2

Hey guys done some more work on the bust, the skin is almost done just a few areas to sort out (like the ears) and then on to the beard, i was thinking a grey beard as he has old wrinkly skin that would fit best. sorry pics are not great i was taking a photo after every ''stage'' (although i dont like the idea of painting in stages) so i could do a photo album of transformation from grey resin to finished bust. why? why not!, hope you like it so far, would like to know what you guys think of it so far as facebook comments have been a bit thin on the ground.
more soon
peace out

Space wolf dreadnought & Golden demon space marines

Woz up guys. this was my entry for golden demon space marines that i worked on over 2 months for the contest I got nothing for it, not even a finalist that i thought was odd as the small number of entry's maybe 20 in total to the vehicle category, anyway lets not talk about golden demon judging  as its a conundrum at the best of times, painted in the classic eavy metal style, not a conscious decision just the way the vibe took me at the time.

It was a fun day at least i enjoyed myself and was good to catch up with other painters I've not seen for a while. i liked the way the staff took away your model to be placed in the cabinet from a large table at the side. instead of the trying to hand your mini over the barriers with other people/boxes/elbows argh! a better system i thought.

The single model category was by far the largest amount of entry's as the normal GD and the other category's were alot less maybe 20-25 vehicle 15-20 squad and duel maybe 10? unbound category was very thin less that 10 entry's i would say. so personally i would have felt less pleased to win a demon from one of these very small category's but hey that's me. not to discredit anyone as the winners were very nice models. What i mean is i would have felt more pleased with myself to win a demon in a category where there was 100 entry's than 10 entry's, comprende !

so no demon for me but i did get a finalist pin in  space marine single model that was good as the large amount of entrants.

Not sure what i think of these small events maybe they will grow in time, but i had a good day thats the main thing.

peace out.

NMM Grey knight part 5 !

Hey guys and girls some more progress made on the grey knight, i really didn't think that it would turn out as well as it has so far, i need to improve some areas, glazing to improve the contrast and some parts just need to be more tidy. I have learn't a hell of alot whilst painting the nmm and have to say that the most important thing really is to have the maximum amount of contrast, secondly is the positioning of the white highlights this will be the direct reflection of light. I think you could probably get away with not being so tidy as long as these elements are in place, say if you wanted to paint an army for example. and no im not going to do that i would have to be crazy.

Next will be the base that i still have not started it will be an industrial vibe i think. I don't think i've ever painted a model an not had the base finished before starting to paint.  more on that soon
hope you like it so far any advice or comments would be cool.

NMM Madness! Grey knight part 4

Hey guys and girls more progress on the grey knight, i must say i am surprising myself i didn't expect it to turn out as well as it is. Ive taken a little break and moved on to the sword for now as staring at all them shades of grey in my wet palette was starting to drive me crazy. i decided to paint the sword in an energy field style again some of you might remember the grey knight i painted a few years ago its the same deal maybe a little different, any who the sword is not finished yet it still needs work. hope you like it guys more soon.

Head and torso are now finished. next is on to the arms then sword. i really must build a base for it as i haven't even given that a thought yet. hope you like. comments most welcome. or advice.

NMM Grey knight W.I.P part 2

Hey guys painted some more of the grey knight,  i finised the silver on the legs in a previous session this time i worked on the nmm gold. It turned out ok im happy enough with it.
the gold was a simple colour recipe just snakebite leather white and glaze black into the shadows for the maximum contrast that is very important for nmm painting. also i found that its very important were the final highlight goes as this is the direct reflection of light. The whole thing could be a bit smoother but at this stage im still learning and trying to get everything in the right place first.
Next i will attack the torso.
more very soon
peace out!!!!!

NMM grey knight.

Hey guys hope your all good.
Lately ive been studying NMM painting as its something ive always liked but never tried so i decided to finally give it a shot.
i spent many many hours studying others work on cmon and learning the theory behind it, the way light affects metal objects and all that brain melting stuff thats hard to get your head around but it seams to have payed off as im very pleased with what ive done so far.
anyone have any tips or suggestions/comments on what else i could improve on?
this was from my first session  about 4 hours work. i plan to do more tonight.
peace

MOTIVATION & Blightking 2

Good evening fellow brush lickers, ive recently been away from painting for a little while I haven't felt motivated to paint nor felt the urge. I thought a lot about ''motivation '' during my time off and for me personally I think just being plain tired from work is enough for me, I work around 11 hours a day this time of year and normally get up at 5.45am which sucks but it must be done. i've  noticed that this time last year on my blog there is also not much happening so I put it down to that.

The next thing about motivation that I concluded was pressure !! pressure to paint to a high standard and expectations of other people and myself to paint to a high standard, but what I came to realise is that this is not always possible with the free time I have probably 10 hours max a week painting time if im not tired out. and im not sure that its all that important now.
Im not one to drop names but its like roman from massive voodoo is always saying  about ''happy painting'' and I was confused about this for a long time but recently I have realised what it really means to just have fun don't worry to much about standards or opinions its my hobby at the end of the day not my job. it takes a massive amount of time and effort to paint a mini for golden demon for example probably for me about 4 months just working on one mini which can drive me crazy and bring the motivation way down for other projects. Its hard work painting like this so I plan from now on to enjoy my painting and not just try and excel on every model I paint.

So with that all said ive just finished the second blightking  yes painted for FUN not to impress others or push myself just plain old fun!
it took about 7 hours to finish it.

Fun is good motivation!!!

Oh and blightking 3 is on the way.
peace ,have fun
